This year’s monsoon caught me bad. Real bad. I was stuck at home, no shoots, no going out, no roaming around but only a lot of depression. A lot of people romanticize rain and that’s perfectly alright. But honestly speaking, continuous rain with a forever dull and gloomy skyline, gets on the nerves. At least for me.
On the brighter side, you can stay back, sleep, take a long rest, read books, have a lot of good food and then spend perfect lazy days. But then again, that bores me out after a certain point.
Well, as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, similarly, amidst all the depression and gloominess, I discovered these perfect ways to turn a boring day into a happening one. After all, it’s all about dancing in the rain without waiting for it to stop. Isn’t it ?
1. WEAR CASUALS.
The best thing to do in this weather is to wear comfortable casuals. All those fancy t-shirts, chinos and loafers can rest in the closet for some time. You obviously wouldn’t want to feel annoyed in this weather when you go out. Cotton is the best option, it lets you breathe, it lets your skin breathe and even if you happen to get drenched, cotton helps in drying out quick and easy.
2. MAINTAIN A PASTEL PALETTE.
You would obviously not want to look like a shining colourful umbrella in this weather. No. The best option is to stick to a muted colour code. Wear Linen pants. They are comfortable, stretchable, allows you to move freely and most importantly, they look great. Just like this olive coloured ones which I am wearing here. Another great asset is a Denim Shirt. Trust me guys, it is THE thing to own for every individual. Be it winter, summer, monsoon, autumn, whatever the temperature is…. a Denim shirt is ALWAYS going to make you feel comfortable. It’s a true investment. Besides, you can do basic layering, like I have done here . Or you can wear it as a stand-alone. It would look equally good.
3. PRINT YOUR OWN MOTIF.
Here comes the real deal. Find a good printing company from where you can get your own motif/design printed on a t-shirt. My advice would be to get a solitaire motif done on a t-shirt as it looks great with a layered shirt. Animal skin prints are so common, hence I decided to get the animal itself, printed on the t-shirt. You can even get your design painted. You can try out some eye catching quotes too. All of them are available at almost every store near you and online.
4. CATCH UP WITH AN OLD FRIEND.
We have become so easy with our lives, that we tend to forget about the ones who, at one point in time really mattered to us. So I decided to catch up with an old friend of mine. We used to be great friends in school, but then life got us and we became too busy to communicate. This was the day. And since he is a brilliant photographer, we took the opportunity and started clicking pictures. He, for experimenting, and I , for practicing poses in front of the camera. And voila ! We had made a collection that could be showcased in a blogpost !
5. TREAT YOURSELVES. PAMPER YOURSELVES.
Whether a lot can happen over coffee or not, that I am unsure, but the fact that a lot can happen over food, is absolutely true and significant. You feel happy only when your stomach feels happy. Besides, a hearty conversation is never complete without good food. We checked into Paris Cafe at Rajarhat, saltlake, Kolkata. The place lived up to it’s name. It had classic french music playing, an intoxicating smell of ginger and garlic being cooked, and very pretty decorations that makes you never want to leave the place. Next time you are anywhere near Rajarhat, you MUST visit this place.
Now it’s time for some style hack :
ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES TO A PROPER PLACE.
A very important point that is to be kept in mind, is that you must roll up your sleeves to a point where it rests just above your elbow. Anywhere lower, would make the shirt look ill-fitted, especially if you do not have well developed forearms. And anywhere higher would make you look like a wannabe ‘swaggy’ dude.
So instead of sulking about the weather, go out, have fun and make sure you make most of the day. Let not the drops dampen your happiness.
